The MELIB network (Movilidad Eléctrica Illes Balears), managed by the Balearic Energy Institute (IBE), is a key infrastructure for promoting electric mobility in the Balearic archipelago. With more than 1,300 public charging points distributed across Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera, MELIB has established itself as one of the largest and most advanced public charging networks in Spain.
In a context of steady growth in electric mobility, the IBE faced a dual challenge: improving the digital user experience and optimizing the operational management of a complex network, with multiple types of users, operators, and owners.
The solution: EVcharge’s white-label platform
To address this challenge, the Balearic Energy Institute selected EVcharge’s white-label platform, a flexible and scalable solution that enables operation under its own brand identity without having to take on the complexity of developing technology from scratch.
Since April 2025, the new MELIB 2025 app, developed using EVcharge technology, has been fully operational on Android and iOS, supporting the entire MELIB network and laying the foundations for its future growth.
A new experience for MELIB users
Thanks to the advanced features of the EVcharge app, MELIB users enjoy a simpler, faster, and more reliable charging experience. The application allows users to check charger status in real time, easily locate available charging points on the map, and start and pay for a charging session in just two clicks, minimizing interaction time.
In addition, the app provides detailed information during charging, notifications about availability and session completion, advanced filters to find chargers based on different criteria, and a renewed design that is more intuitive and accessible. These improvements strengthen user confidence and make everyday electric vehicle use easier across the entire archipelago
Efficient and centralized management with EVcharge Manager
For MELIB network managers, the implementation of EVcharge Manager has enabled a comprehensive optimization of operations. The platform centralizes the monitoring, control, and remote management of all charging points within a single environment, allowing for more agile and efficient administration.
Features such as billing, user management, push notifications, incident management, maintenance and ticketing modules, and the hierarchical organization of domains and HUBs to structure charging points according to different owners make it easier to serve both public and affiliated users simultaneously. This capability has enabled MELIB to consolidate its network and approach its growth as a strategic opportunity.
A future-oriented public electric mobility model
Functions with the mission of driving the energy transition and the democratization of energy. Its main initiatives include the promotion of shared self-consumption, the development of renewable energy projects, the reduction of the Balearic Government’s electricity bill, and the promotion of electric mobility through the MELIB network.
The adoption of a white-label solution like EVcharge’s strengthens this strategy by providing the network with a solid, flexible technological foundation, ready to evolve at the pace demanded by electric mobility.
Results and shared vision
With the new MELIB 2025 app and the EVcharge Manager platform, MELIB is consolidating its position as a benchmark model in the public management of charging infrastructure. The Balearic Islands case shows that the combination of institutional vision, technological collaboration, and a strong focus on the end user makes it possible to accelerate the transition toward a more sustainable, accessible, and efficient mobility model.
